Starting a business is a lot like the feeling you get at the starting line of a big race. Excitement. Apprehension. Nervousness. Happiness that you're out there, ready to take on the challenge.
(The bonus of a race is that eventually, the gun goes off and you get to start! . . . With a startup, it takes a little longer.)
In fact, when I had the idea for Cause I Run, it was more than a year ago, and it looked a lot different.
I’m glad that developing this brand took (and continues to take) time. Like training for a marathon, it’s worth it to put in the work to reap the best reward. For me, that meant developing a product and brand that truly reflects what I value.
Cause I Run is sustainable active wear that inspires bodies to be in motion while giving back.
What does that mean? I’ll break it down for you.
When I first started researching how to start a clothing company, I assumed that I would source from China (like most apparel companies). The more I tried to communicate with Chinese companies, though, the more frustrated I got. I even ordered samples and paid a huge shipping fee, only to be disappointed when I received a product that looked nothing like the picture they had provided.
After that fiasco, I decided I wanted to run a company that makes its products in the United States, so I dove into researching how to get American products. That’s when I discovered that just 3 percent of our clothing is actually made in America.
During this research, I stumbled across an article that mentioned how the fashion industry is the second-most leading source of environmental pollution in the world (second only to oil!). Because I value environmental stewardship, I knew in that moment that my products needed to avoid making a negative impact on the earth. I’m proud that Cause I Run products are made entirely out of recycled polyester or a recycled polyester and spandex blend (and we’re always looking into new fabrics that are sustainable while also suitable for performance).
Inspiring bodies to be in motion
What has running done for you? For me, some of my best moments in life have been in the moments immediately following a road race. After training consistently, there have been times when I’ve crossed a finish line in disbelief of what I had just accomplished.
With Cause I Run, I want to provide running gear that inspires people to put on the clothes and hit the pavement. Running is a gift, but it doesn’t always feel that way. It can be difficult to get started, or to fit it in a busy schedule, or to run in the humidity/snow/rain/etc.
When you put on a pair of Cause I Run running tights, though, you’re not just doing it for you. Which leads me to my last point…
Each purchase made on Cause I Run helps someone.
Each time you get dressed for a run, you can do so knowing that someone’s life is better because of it.
At Cause I Run, we'll give a portion of our proceeds to our valued partners, charitable organizations that make the world a better place. We especially value protecting the environment and improving the lives of women and other marginalized communities.
That's where you come in: Buying an item from Cause I Run means your dollars will go toward one of three selected organizations – raising awareness and funds for issues important to you. We want to help answer the question – "what moves you?"
